Jessop

In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh recorded John H. Jessop as the proprietor of over 1500 acres in County Longford as well as over 200 acres in County Westmeath and some property in Dublin. The contemporary Chief Tenants report noted the representatives of F.T. Jessop as the proprietors of over 4000 acres. At the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s, F.T. Jessop was a principal lessor in the parish of Taghshinny, barony of Shrule. Frances Jessop was the lessor of townlands in the parish of Killashee, barony of Longford. The Jessops were landowners in this area of County Longford since at least the mid-18th century and had connections through marriage with the Fetherston family of Ardagh as well as with landed families in Counties Dublin and Wexford
