O'Reilly (Ballymahon)
Richard P. O’Reilly, medical doctor, was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Cashel and Kilcommock, barony of Rathcline and the parish of Agharra, barony of Shrule, County Longford at the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s. He was also one of the principal lessors in the parish of Ardnurcher or Horseleap, county Westmeath, at this time. He married firstly Ellen, daughter of Andrew Ennis of Ballinahown, county Westmeath and secondly Olivia, daughter of Nicholas Kenney of Rocksavage, county Monaghan. In 1863 their only daughter Jeanette married Maurice C. J. Blake of Towerhill, county Mayo. Dr. O’Reilly died in 1870 and was succeeded by his son, Joseph Richard O’Reilly, born 1843, a lawyer and JP and High Sheriff of county Longford in 1867. In the 1870s, Joseph Richard was the owner of over 4000 acres, 2,464 of which was in County Longford, 835 in county Westmeath and 704 in county Meath.
