Newcomen (Longford)
Thomas Newcomen was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Cashel, barony of Rathcline and of Kilglass, barony of Moydow. Teresa Newcomen was among the principal lessors in the parish of Rathcline at the same time. The Newcomens were not recorded as owners in County Longford in the 1870s. Devaney outlines their significance in 17th and 18th century County Longford but their fortunes had declined by the mid-19th century with the failure of the bank in which they had an interest. In November 1871 Charles M. Newcomen offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court, almost 4000 acres in the barony of Rathcline. This included what was known as the manor of Elfeet.
