McGauran/M'Gauran

Edward M’Gauran of Cavan, member of a long established Cavan family, was a solicitor and Clerk of the Peace for Cavan. In the 1870s he owned over 500 acres in the county.

  • Conveyance made between Robert James Burrowes, Stradone house, Stradone, county Cavan, esquire, High Sheriff of county Cavan, and Edward McGauran, 73 Eden quay, city of Dublin, solicitor. Recites details of court case between McGauran, plaintiff, and Philip Sheridan, Tierlahood, county Cavan, defendant. By virtue of writ issued out of Her Majesty's High Court of Justice in Ireland, Queen's Bench, Burrowes has taken possession of unexpired interest of Sheridan in property described as 12 acres, 1 rood and 7 perches statute measure part of the town and lands of Tirlahode (Tierlahood), barony of Tullygarvey, county Cavan. Held by Sheridan from Henry Atkins Newell Atkins, esquire, at annual rent of £6.13.0. Property sold by public auction on 17 April 1883 and purchased by McGauran for sum of £30. 19 April 1883.
