Harris (Dublin)
In the mid-1870s, Lewis Harris of 19 Suffolk Street, Dublin, owned 537 acres in county Cavan and a further 359 acres in county Wexford and 58 acres in county Dublin. Lewis Wormser Harris (1812-1876) was a money broker and financier of Suffolk Street, Dublin. He was born in Germany and moved to Ireland when still a child where he adopted the surname Harris. He was the first Jew to become an alderman of the city and died in 1876 just after being elected Lord Mayor.
