Cuming/Cumming

In 1878, Major Robert John Cuming of Crover, county Cavan, owned 1,118 acres in the county. He was the son of Hugh Cuming of Dublin, a public notary and the nephew of William Cuming (1769-1852), portrait painter. In the mid-19th century Robert J. Cuming held land in the parishes of Castlerahan and Drung while other land in the parish of Drumlumman was held by Robert Cummins. The author, Edward William Dirom Cuming, was a member of this family.
