Allen (Mount Panther)
Lord Belmont writes that Mount Panther in county Down was bought in 1832 by John Reed Allen of Dunover, county Down, from the representatives of Major William Henry Rainey. http://lordbelmontinnorthernireland.blogspot.com/2013/09/mount-panther.html By the mid-19th century John R. Allen was in possession of three townlands in the county Cavan parish of Lavey. In 1876, John R. Allen is recorded as the owner of 791 acres in county Cavan and his son George owned 2,585 acres in county Down. George was High Sheriff of county Down in 1885 and died in 1929.
