Battersby (Lislin)

The Battersby family were settled in Ireland by the end of the 17th century. Robert Battersby of Bobsville, county Meath, was born in 1721 and married Marianne, daughter and co heiress of Haynes Wade of Lislin, county Cavan, in 1763. They had six sons and three daughters. In 1804, the eldest son, Haynes Wade Battersby, married Judith Woodward of Drumbarrown, county Meath. Their eldest son was Robert Battersby MD of Bobsville and Lislin. In 1835, he married his cousin, Susannah Woodward. In the mid-19th century Robert Battersby held Ashgrove in the parish of Drumlane and Lislin and Lisinigan in the parish of Drung, county Cavan, amounting to an estate of just over 400 acres.
