Slator

Burke states that Slator family were settled in County Longford since at least the 1650s. In the mid-19th century Henry Bevan Wilson Slator held land in the parishes of Crosserlough and Scrabby, county Cavan. He was the only son of Thomas Wilson M.D. of Cavan and his wife, Mary Slator of White Hill, county Longford. He succeeded to the property of his maternal uncle in 1832 and took the additional name of Slator. In 1808, he married Annabella Hinds of Mulhussey Castle, county Meath and died in June 1857. His third son, George Warner Wilson Slator of White Hill, county Longford and Belle Ville county Meath, owned 279 acres in county Cavan in 1876 while Bevan Slator of Clinan, Colehill, owned 1,016 acres in county Longford. At the time of Griffiths’ Valuation in the 1850s, George Slator was the lessor of lands in the parish of Clonbroney, barony of Ardagh, Henry B. Wilson-Slator was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clonbroney and Columbkille, barony of Granard at the same time. In 1861 rental interest of property at Tonyn [Toneen], barony of Moydow, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates court. The parties with interest in the rental included members of the Slator and Cumming families. In January 1864 Alexander Henry Slator offered for sale the rental of the Whitehill estate, amounting to over 500 acres, in the Landed Estates Court. He offered over 700 acres of his estates in the barony of Granard for sale in June 1867. In 1881 he offered lands in the barony of Shrule and commercial premises in the town of Ballymahon for sale in the Land Judges' Court. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) Thomas Wilson Slator held a townland in the parish of Killucan, county Westmeath, from Francis Wright.
