Holmes (Templeport)

In 1878, Cecil Frederick Holmes of Harrow on the Hill, London, was the owner of 392 acres in county Cavan and 385 acres in county Fermanagh. His county Cavan land was in the parish of Templeport, barony of Tullyhaw. He was a master at Harrow School, son of Professor Frederick Holmes and his wife Anna Maria Loxdale. The Professor was born in county Down and may have had links to a Holmes family, merchants in Belfast, in the 18th century. Cecil Frederick Holmes (1828-1887) was married to Constantina Louisa Laugher. An obituary to him appeared in The Eagle: A Magazine of Harrow School, volume 14-15, (1887), page 395.
