Blachford

The Blachford/Blashford family gravestones in Templeport graveyard in county Cavan record the early history of this family. John Blashford came from Dorchester, Dorset, in the 17th century and settled in county Cavan. Lissnaover in the parish of Killinagh, barony of Tullyhaw, was the family residence. In the mid-19th century the Blashford estate was principally in the parish of Templeport where Griffith’s Valuation records William Blashford as the lessor of at least 16 townlands and one in the parish of Tomregan. The estate of William Blachford of Lisnaover amounting to over 3,000 acres was advertised for sale in May 1858.
