Thomson (Bushford)
This family were settled at Bushford, parish of Aghnamullen, county Monaghan, from about the mid-18th century and intermarried with the Jacksons of Ballybay. Humphry Thomson was an early occupant of Bushford, (''Newry Telegraph'' 24 September 1822 records his death on 12 September, aged 88. The house is marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey map (1836). At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Robert Thomson Senior, held all the townland of Anny (467 acres) by a lease to him and his brother James Thomson Tennant from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners (1837), plus 104 acres in Clossagh Beg, parish of Aghnamullen and 112 acres of Tullaghan, parish of Tedavnet. In the mid-1850s, Anny was advertised for sale along with Corlea and Tyrraree, parish of Tullycorbett, a third part of the corn mill of Aghnamullen and Ballyreagan, county Down, in the Encumbered Estates Court. The Thomsons also lived at Thornhill. The racing calendar of 1869 refers to Frith Thomson of Thornhill. In 1876, Robert Thomson of Thornhill, owned 180 acres in county Monaghan. Robert George Thomson, only son of Major Frith Thomson is recorded as a nephew of Lieut. Col. Robert Thomson of Bushford in Walford's 1918. Members of this family are buried in St Molua's Church of Ireland graveyard, Drumsnat.
