Bennie
Walford describes George Bennie as 'formerly a merchant in Newry'. George was born in 1827, the only son of John Bennie of Farmoyle and his wife Margaret Glenny of Newry. In 1850 George married Jane Parker and they had one daughter. At the time of Griffith's Valuation (circa 1860) George Bennie held the townland of Mountain Lodge Demesne (484 acres), parish of Aghnamullen, county Monaghan in fee. He also held 97 acres of Mountcarmel from Samuel Moorhead. His estate in county Monaghan was for sale in the Landed Estates Court in July 1865.
