Whitsitt
In the early 19th century the Whitsitt family of Selloo owned an estate in the Clones area of county Monaghan. Joseph Whitsitt made his will on 19 September 1832 and was succeeded by his son, also named Joseph. The estate was mortgaged to Henry Thomson on 27 July 1848. When the estate of 758 acres came up for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court on 3 February 1853 the petitioner was Henry Thomson. Selloo House was bought by the Pringle family at this time while other parts of the estate were in the possession of Lord Rossmore and Henry Alfred Taylor at the time of Griffith's Valuation (c. 1860). Griffith's Valuation records the Reverend John Whitsitt as the occupier of about 40 acres in the townland of Corragarry, parish of Currin. In 1876, the representatives of Benjamin Whitsitt of Rosslea, county Fermanagh, owned 94 acres in county Monaghan.
