Motherwell and Black (Inishowen)
Caldwell Motherwell and Thomas Black were among the lessors of property in the parish of Moville Upper at the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1850s. The Landowner's report of the 1870s records the representatives of Caldwell Motherwell as the owners of over 370 acres in County Donegal at that time while Thomas Black was noted as the owner of over 580 acres. Lecky suggests that the Motherwells were a prominent Presbyterian family whose name was originally rendered Moderel.
