Doherty (Redcastle)

James S. Doherty was among the principal lessors in the parish of Moville Upper at the time of Griffith’s Valuation. In the 1870s Richard Doherty, "formerly a professor in the Queen’s Colleges", was recorded as the owner of almost 7000 acres in County Donegal. His only daughter, Elizabeth, married Ernest Cochrane, son of the Earl of Dundonald, who later inherited the Doherty estate.
