Hamilton (Fyne Court)
The Hamiltons of Fyne Court, Somerset, descend from Andrew Crosse of Fyne Court who in 1809 married Mary Anne, eldest daughter of Captain John Hamilton, 61st Regiment, of Garrison, near Ballyshannon, Co Fermanagh. Andrew Crosse was a scientist particularly associated with electrical experiments. It is claimed that he inspired Mary Shelley to write Frankenstein. His eldest son John, assumed the name Hamilton and in 1876 held 781 acres county Monaghan and 138 acres in county Fermanagh. Fyne Court was a large mansion. Most of it was accidentally destroyed by a fire in 1894, including many records but the grounds are now in the care of the National Trust and open to the public.
