Smyth (Ballynure)
Shirley writes that in 1709 the Ballynure property, parish of Killeevan, barony of Dartreee, county Monaghan, was sold by Michael Ward, ancestor of Viscount Bangor, to Roger Smyth of Knock. Roger was succeeded by his son James Smyth who died in 1756. In 1780, James’ son Captain William Smyth sold the property to William Forster of Monaghan except for six townlands inherited by the Burnsides. Captain Smyth’s daughter Anna Maria was married to Captain Matthew James Burnside and they were the parents of the Reverend Dr William Smyth Burnside.
