Hawkshaw (Monaghan)
The Reverend John Hawkshaw was rector of Monaghan in 1740. He married Elizabeth Madden, daughter of the Reverend Samuel Madden known as ‘Premium Madden’. In the mid-19th century John Hawkshaw and others held three townlands in the parish of Aghnamullen, barony of Cremorne, county Monaghan while Charles Hawkshaw held a townland in the parish of Killeevan, barony of Dartree. In 1876, Madden Hawkshaw of Eastbourne, England owned 721 acres in county Monaghan. The Morning Advertiser of 21 December 1872 records his marriage to Margaret Anne daughter of George Hodgkinson of Newark on Trent on 18 December. He died in 1886, Harry Rogers of Monaghan was his sole executor, see Wills and Administrations 1886, 268.
