Jones (Carrickaderry)
In the mid-18th century a Humphrey Jones of Belturbet, county Cavan, married Elizabeth Moutray of Favour Royal, county Tyrone. In the mid-19th century Humphrey Jones held land in the parishes of Tullycorbet, Monaghan and Clontibret. In 1858, he sold a 8 acre site to Bishop Charles McNally on which St Macartan's Cathedral in Monaghan was erected. He died in 1869 aged 77, his wife Eliza Swanzy predeceased him and was buried at St Colman’s Church, Clontibret in 1861. In 1876, Humphrey Jones of Fermoy Lodge, county Cork, owned 648 acres in county Monaghan. In 1906, the representatives of Humphry Jones held buildings with a rateable valuation of £27.10s. and 16 acres of untenanted land at Carrickaderry.
