Gray (Rockfield)
The Gray family were prominent in the Ballybay area of county Monaghan. In the mid-19th century Joseph Gray of Rockfield held land in the parish of Kilmore and in 1876 was recorded as the owner of 314 acres in the county. He was married to Elizabeth Smith of Smithsborough and was succeeded by his son John Gray who married Isa Bury in 1892. The family were still resident at Rockfield in 1910.
