Kane (Drumreask)
The Kane family were established in Dublin at the beginning of the 18th century, family members were involved in banking and served as Lord Mayors of Dublin. In the 19th century male members of this family were soldiers, doctors and clergymen. In the mid-19th century the representatives of two brothers Joseph and the Reverend Francis Kane held an estate in the parish of Errigal Trough, county Monaghan. In 1837, Joseph Kane of Dublin and Devon married Eliza Jane, Mademoiselle de Vismes, only daughter of Colonel the Count de Vismes of Huguenot descent. Their son William Francis De Visme Kane purchased the Drumreask estate in the parish of Tedavnet, county Monaghan, from the Mitchell family in 1864. His estate amounted to 1,770 acres in 1876.
