Evatt

A family descended from John Evatt, Dean of Elphin, in the early 17th century. Shirley writes that their estate in the parish of Tedavnet, county Monaghan, was purchased from Thomas Coote of Cootehill. Charles Evatt of Mont Louise, Smithboro’, was High Sheriff in 1760. In 1838, his grandson Samuel Robert Bayley Evatt married Jane Pratt. They had a large family of sixteen children. In the mid-19th century Samuel R.B. Evatt of Mont Louise held an estate in the parishes of Tedavnet and Drumsnat, county Monaghan. In 1876, he owned 1,241 acres in county Monaghan. He was succeeded by his son George Forster Evatt in 1894. In 1906, George F. Evatt occupied 151 untenanted acres and a mansion house with a rateable valuation of £31 at Mullatigorny.
