Greer (Woodville)

The Greers of Woodville, Lurgan, county Armagh, share a common ancestry with the Greers of The Grange, Moy, county Tyrone. Members of the Greer family were involved in the linen industry. George Greer (1779-1856) of Woodville was a younger son of John Greer, Inspector General of the Linen Trade in Ulster. George was a partner in Greer and Boyd, distillers. In the mid-19th century George Greer held one townland and Henry Greer held four townlands in the parish of Tedavnet, county Monaghan. In 1876, Henry Greer of Woodville, Lurgan owned 579 acres and George Greer of Woodville owned 309 acres in county Monaghan.
