Moutray
The Moutray family of Fifeshire in Scotland acquired the Favour Royal estate in county Tyrone, through marriage with members of the Erskine family who had been granted the estate by James I. In 1768, the Reverend Anketell Moutray of Favour Royal married Catherine, eldest daughter of Thomas Singleton of Fort Singleton. In the mid-19th century their grandson Anketell Moutray held land in the parish of Errigal Trough, county Monaghan. In 1843, Anketell’s brother, Whitney Moutray, married his cousin Annabella Singleton and through this marriage acquired the Singleton properties, Fort Singleton, county Monaghan and Auburn, county Dublin. In 1876, Whitney Moutray owned 349 acres in county Monaghan.
