Johnston (Fort Johnston)

In the mid-seventeenth century this family settled in the parish of Donagh, barony of Trough, county Monaghan. In 1820, Henry George Johnston married Maria, daughter of William Young of Monaghan. In the mid-nineteenth century Henry Johnston held an estate situated in the parishes of Donagh, Tehallan and Aghnamullen. In 1871, the trustees of the will of Henry George Johnston offered for sale the lands of Keenogduff and Keenogbane, 312 acres in the parish of Aghnamullen. In 1876, Henry George's son, the Reverend Walter Johnston of The Rectory, Connor, Ballymena, owned 1,110 acres.
