Hamill (Bessbrook)
At the time of Griffith’s Valuation David Hamill of Bessbrook, townland of Roosky, parish of Killevan, barony of Dartree, county Monaghan, held a townland in each of the parishes of Aghabog and Aghnamullen. In 1876, Mrs David Hamil of Roosky, Clones, owned 565 acres in county Monaghan while John Hamill of Dundalk owned 369 acres. Anne Jane Carlile (1775–1864), temperance pioneer and philanthropist, was a member of this family. Born on 8 April 1775 in Rooskey, county Monaghan, she was the youngest child of David Hamill, a farmer and linen merchant, and Martha Hamill (née Armstrong). In 1800, she married Rev.
