Lucas (Raconnell)

Edward Lucas of Castle Shane was born in 1720 and had a family of seven sons and five daughters. One of his younger sons Lieut Colonel Robert Lucas married Olivia daughter and co heir of John Owen of Raconnell and widow of Henry Owen Scott of Scotstown by whom he had a large family including Edward William Lucas who was occupying Raconnell at the time of Griffith’s Valuation. His mother Olivia Lucas held two townlands in the parish of Kilmore at this time and with her nephew Owen Blayney Cole held townlands in the parishes of Drumsnat, Clones and Tedavnet. In 1855 Edward W. Lucas married Louisa Martha, daughter of Henry George Johnston of Fort Johnston, county Monaghan. In 1876 Edward William Lucas of Raconnell owned 79 acres in county Monaghan.
