Plunkett Kenney

At the time of Griffith’s Valuation Joseph Plunkett Kenney held eight townlands in the parish of Donaghmoyne and five townlands in the parish of Inishkeen, barony of Farney. His mother Charlotte had inherited this estate from her father James Plunkett of Rocksavage. Charlotte and her husband N.W. Kenney had five sons William Henry, Joseph Plunkett, Theobald, Kildare and Charles and four daughters. In 1876, Joseph Plunkett Kenney owned 1,868 acres in the county and a small acreage in county Louth. In the same year about 500 acres of the estate on the Monaghan/Louth border was for sale in the Landed Estates Court. Charles Plunkett Kenney mortgaged the Rocksavage estate to the National Bank in 1888. He lived at Rocksavage until his death in 1901. He married Alice daughter of Peter McEvoy Gartlan, who occupied Monalty House at the time of Griffith's Valuation, and was succeeded by his son Ignatius, born in 1862.
