Brownlow

At the time of Griffith’s Valuation William Brownlow held an estate of at least 17 townlands in the parish of Magheracloone, barony of Farney, county Monaghan. This family were a branch of the Brownlow family, Barons Lurgan, who held a large estate in county Armagh from the early 17th century. By the mid-19th century William Brownlow was resident at Knapton House, Queen’s County (county Laois). In 1876 he owned 2,959 acres in county Monaghan. William Claude Brabazon Brownlow of Coolderry was a nephew of William Brownlow of Knapton.
