Leslie (Kiltybegs)
John Leslie of Kiltybegs, Carrickmacross, county Monaghan, was a major in the 6th Dragoon Guards. In 1867, he married Anna Maria daughter of the Reverend Quentin D. Hume of county Carlow. In 1876, Captain John Leslie of Kiltybegs owned 1,027 acres in county Monaghan and 1,503 acres in county Cavan. [Griffith’s Valuation does not record any lands in county Cavan belonging to this family] John Leslie died in 1899 and was succeeded by his eldest son, Charles John Leslie, who was High Sheriff of county Monaghan in 1904.
