Hamilton (Fintragh)
Mrs. [Anna] Anne Hamilton was recorded as one of the principal landowners in the parish of Kilcar, Barony of Banagh, County Donegal, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation. In the 1870s the Landowners' survey records Anne Hamilton, of Fintra, Killybegs, owned 4000 acres in Donegal. The family of her late husband, James Hamilton, had been settled in that part of Donegal since the 17th century, descended from Hamiltons who came from Scotland during the Plantation of Ulster. Observations concerning this estate in the eighteenth century are contained in the Murray of Broughton papers at the Public Record Office, Northern Ireland.
