Talbot (Malahide)

At the time of Griffith's Valuation Lord Talbot de Malahide held a sporting estate at Altnabrocky in the parish of Kilcommon, barony of Erris, county Mayo, from Maria and Letitia Bingham. In 1878, Lord Talbot de Malahide owned 1,133 acres in county Cavan, 1,893 acres in county Dublin and 547 acres in county Westmeath. His county Cavan estate was in the parishes of Bailieborough, Crosserlough and Killinkere. The County Westmeath estates of the Talbots of Malahide came into the family’s possession through the marriage of Richard Talbot and Margaret, eldest daughter of James O’Reilly of Ballinlough, County Westmeath, created Baroness Talbot of Malahide in 1831. She died in 1834. One of her grandsons, Reginald Talbot of Rhode Hill, Lyme Regis, England, was in possession of much of the family’s County Westmeath’s lands at the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854). These were located in the parishes of Templeoran, Portloman and Mullingar and his estate amounted to 1,839 acres in the mid-1870s. At the time of Griffiths Valuation in the early 1850s Lord Talbot de Malahide was among the principal lessors in the parish of Noughaval, barony of Kilkenny West. The Westmeath estate amount to over 500 acres in the 1870s.
