Leper Hospital Trustees (Waterford)
The Trustees of the Leper Hospital in Waterford were the owners of over 850 acres in the county in the 1870s as well as over 100 acres in county Kilkenny. They were among the principal lessors in the parish of Killea, barony of Gaultiere, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. An Infirmary building, commonly known as the Leper Hospital, was built in at John's Hill in the city in 1784. A leper hospital had existed in the city before and after the arrival of the Cromwellians. By the eighteenth century the funds which had formerly supported that institution were transferred to the upkeep of the infirmary.
