Ryan (Kilheffernan)

The Ryans were resident in the parish of Killaloan, barony of Iffa and Offa East, county Tipperary, from the early 18th century. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Thomas Ryan held land in the parish of Killaloan, while in the barony of Iffa and Offa West, Callaghan Ryan held land in the parish of Newcastle and William Ryan held land in the parishes of Molough and Neddans. In 1852 O'Callaghan Ryan was murdered in county Tipperary following the serving of ejectments on some of his tenants. The estate of Thomas Ryan [formerly that of O'Callaghan Ryan] at Boolahallagh, Clashganny and Baneard, barony of Iffa and Offa West, was advertised for sale in January 1856. In the 1870s Thomas Ryan of Dublin owned 612 acres in county Tipperary.
