Smith (Cork)

The name Mathias Smith was associated with Cork city in the 18th century. In August 1851 an estate of almost one thousand acres belonging to Mathias Smith, an insolvent, at Kilgobbin and Ballinaskebeg, between Cork and Kinsale was advertised for sale. This property had been assigned to Roger Bernard Evans. The premises was advertised for sale again in October 1851. A Matthew Smith had been among the principal lessors in the parish of Ballinadee, barony of East Carbery, at the time of Griffith's Valuation.
