Knolles (somtimes Knowles)
Members of the Walton Knowles family were among the principal lessors in the parishes of Kilmonoge and Kinure, barony of Kinalea, county Cork, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Thomas Knolles was granted 622 acres in this barony with land in county Kilkenny in 1666. The family were connected by marriage with several other local landed families including the Daunts and Nettles. The estate amounted to about 1000 acres in the 1870s.
