De Lacy
Lewis writes that the De Lacy family were established at Bruff, county Limerick from the reign of Henry III. They built the 15th century tower house Ballygrenan Castle south of the town. By the beginning of the 18th century the De Lacys had lost most of their estates and members of this family were to be found serving in the armies on the Continent in the 17th and 18th centuries. Patrick De Lacy of Miltown, county Limerick, married Elizabeth Barry daughter of Standish Barry of Leamlara, county Cork and his wife Elenora Quin, who were married in 1708. Patrick and Elizabeth De Lacy had a daughter Elizabeth who married John Evans, a descendant of Colonel Griffith Evans, Cromwellian soldier. Sir George De Lacy Evans, a disguished 19th century military officer was their son.
