Scott (East Carbery)
Burke writes that this family held land in county Cork from the 17th century and gives a detailed description of their family history up to 1852. Benjamin Scott of Coolmain in the early 19th century was the eldest son of Hibernicus Scott of Flaxfort. Benjamin had 8 sons, the youngest Percy settled on the Isle of Wight. Hibernicus Scott held a small amount of land in county Cork in the 1870s. The representatives of William Scott owned over 300 acres in Cork as well as over 500 acres in Queen's County. William Scott was among the principal lessors in Rathclarin parish, barony of East Carbery, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Hibernia [Hibernicus] Scott held townlands in Leighmoney parish, barony of Kinalea, and Drinagh, barony of East Carbery, at the same time. This family was connected through marriage with the Smyth family of Headborough, county Waterford. [A William Scott held 3 townlands in the parish of Galbooly, barony of Eliogarty, county Tipperary in the mid 19th century but it is not clear if he was a member of this family].
