Watson (Limerick)
The Watsons were a prominent family in the city of Limerick. Alderman Henry Watson, proprietor of the ''Limerick Chronicle'' held land in the parishes of Cahernarry, barony of Clanwilliam, Ballingaddy and Effin, barony of Coshlea and in Limerick city, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. He was a son of Alderman Andrew Watson and married a Miss Vincent of Castleconnell. In the 1870s Henry Watson, no address given, John Watson of Limerick and Lieutenant Colonel Watson of India with other family members owned 324 acres,190 acres and 138 acres respectively in the county. In the 1860s the estate of Andrew James Watson at Gortlacklins in the city of Limerick was advertised for sale and in May 1877 some of the Watson property including Prospect House was advertised for sale. The Irish Times reported that these lots were sold in trust to George F. Murphy and Robert Kerr.
