Westropp (Cork)

the Westropps of county Cork are descended from two brothers Randall Westropp, Mayor of Cork in 1743 and his wife Peniel Beecher who married in 1737 and Ralph Westropp, a medical doctor, who married Mary Bustead in 1745 (Waterpark and Ravenswood). Many of the descendants of Randall and Peniel Westropp had distinguished military careers including Lionel John Westropp. [This may be the John L. Westropp who held land in the parish of Aglish, barony of East Muskerry at the time of Griffith's Valuation. John L. Westropp of India owned 688 acres in county Cork in the 1870s. Lionel John Westropp died in 1862]. Ralph Westropp of Carrigaline owned over 900 acres in county Cork in the 1870s while Henry Westropp held over 300 acres at the same time. Ralph was among the principal lessors in the parish of Liscleary, barony of Kerrycurrihy, at the time of Griffith's Valuation.
