''The Cork Examiner'' (7 Sept 1846) commends the actions of Mr James Welply of Macroom who helped alleviate the hardship of his tenants. At the time of Griffith's Valuation James Welply held 4 townlands in the parish of Kilnamartery, barony of West Muskerry. see http://www.paulturner.ca/Phillips/Whelply_Hayes_Hosford/welpy_hayes_hosford-ancestry.htm.
