Family history sources suggest the Welply family were established in the Bandon area since the late sisteenth or early seventeenth centuries. James Welply of Upton House, Bandon, was the owner of over 4000 acres in county Cork in the 1870s. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Daniel Welply was one of the principal lessors in the parishes of Myross and Caheragh, barony of West Carbery. ''The Cork Examiner'' (7 Sept 1846) commends the actions of Mr James Welply of Macroom who helped alleviate the hardship of his tenants. At the time of Griffith's Valuation James Welply held 4 townlands in the parish of Kilnamartery, barony of West Muskerry. see http://www.paulturner.ca/Phillips/Whelply_Hayes_Hosford/welpy_hayes_hosford-ancestry.htm. In 1860 over 100 acres the property of William Welply, a bankrupt, were offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. Houses and business premises in the town of Skull, the property of James P.
