Shannon (Limerick)

The Ordnance Survey Name Book for the parish of St Patrick's parish, Limerick city, records the purchase by Pierce Shannon of the townland of Corbally for £19,600. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Patrick A. Shannon is recorded as the immedicate lessor of much of this 321 acre townland. Other large residences located in the townland of Corbally at the time of Griffith's Valuation were Roseneath Cottage, Prospect Villa, Prospect House, River View, Geraldine Cottage, Albert Villa, Rose Villa and India Villa. Patrick A. Shannon also held land in the parish of Croagh, barony of Connello Lower and Pierce Shannon held land and properties in St Michaels and St Patricks parishes, Limerick city. In July 1856 the estate of Patrick Aloysius Shannon consisting of houses and premises in the city of Limerick and the fee simple lands of Corbally were advertised for sale in the Encumbered Estates' Court. The rental gives details of the various residences on the Corbally property and includes a small lithograph of Corbally House and toll bridge. A summary of the lots is marked with the names of the purchasers. In the 1870s the representative of Pierce Shannon, Mallow Street, Limerick owned 628 acres in county Limerick.
