At the time of Griffith's Valuation Thomas Cox held land in the parish of Kilglass, barony of Ballintober North, county Roscommon, including Gillstown from the Blakeneys. In the 1870s Thomas Cox, of Gillstown, Strokestown, owned over 400 acres in county Roscommon.
