In the 1870s the representatives of Sir Henry Roper, [of Stoke House, Sussex], Chief Justice at Bombay, a member of a branch of the Roper family, Barons Teynham, owned 181 acres in county Galway, Lady Roper of Castlehill Lodge, Reading, owned 545 acres and Mary Roper of Keightly, England, owned 377 acres. This family had many Irish connections.
