Trough Cottage was occupied by William Walsh who held it from John Carroll at the time of Griffith's Valuation. It was valued at £16. Weir writes that this was the home of the Misses Bentley in the early 20th century.

Trough Castle in the townland of Trough is marked as "in ruins" on the first Ordnance Survey map 1842. Weir writes that Dr Elliott O'Donnell who inherited the county Clare property from Sir Charles O'Donnell in 1870 probably built Trough House in the townland of Roo West. Roo Cottage is marked on the first Ordnance Survey map.
